Mentor Program ~ fall 2008

Starting college is often a positive yet overwhelming experience. Incoming students have lots to learn about life on campus. The Psychological Sciences Student Community is committed to providing you with a smooth transition from high school life to the new, exciting, and unexpected aspects of University life. You are invited to participate in the Psychological Sciences Student Community Mentor Program for fall semester 2008.

By pairing you with a junior or senior student who is eager to help you make a successful transition  to college life easier, it is our goal to  help you gain greater confidence more quickly and enable you to take advantage of the opportunities available at the University of Minnesota!

About the Program
Mentor/Mentee interaction

During the summer months:
-We will connect you with your student mentor via email.  You can get to know each other before arriving on campus.

During the fall semester:
-There will be a kick off event with all the mentors and mentees.
-There will be 3 structured events throughout the fall.
-You and your mentor will arrange to meet at least 2-3 times a month.
-In addition a online component, Web-CT, will support internet discussion and be a network for all mentors and mentees.

Examples of activities that you and your mentor could do together:
-Meet for coffee and chat about how school is going;
-Find good study areas on campus;
-Go to a Gopher game;
-Learn to use University on-line resources;
-Talk about successful study strategies;
-Visit campus services offices;
-Learn to navigate the “Gopher Tunnels” and bus system.
